Principal's Message

The Catholic value for June is kindness. Being kind is a very important quality for people to get along with others. It is mentioned many times throughout the Bible. As part of our school logo is the message from Luke ( 6:31) which states "Do to others as you would have them do to you."

If we were able to have this happen each day in our school it would be a very harmonious place to be. When we know the ideal state, it is important to create the pathway for success. We need to teach each other how we can be better at kindness. Below are some ways we support kindness at school.

  • Encourage kindness - Greet, treat and speak kind words.

  • Model kindness - Support the random acts of kindness such as opening the door, helping others.

  • Encourage kind behavior - Reward positive behaviour with footprints by noticing that students care for each other and include each other.

  • Be a role model - Be aware that students are watching and listening, speaking to colleagues in a kind way, talk about acts of kindness that you have noticed.

  • Encourage empathy - Ask how you would feel if you were left out or you heard those words.

  • Receive kindness -  Receiving the kindness of others in words and gestures can sometimes be challenging. Recognising when someone is Being a thankful person.

  • Talk About It - Explicitly highlight what had been kind in the classroom and the school. Talk about the importance of it, that being kind is building a peaceful place for us to live.

  • Volunteer Together - Each week we set aside time in our timetable to volunteer.  We do that in two ways: By visiting Lyell Wing each week to spend time with the residents; and by cooking for a community group morning tea. Spending time in pursuit of doing things for others is a way to show that kindness is important and that we are making the world a better place through these actions.

Newsletter

Newsletters will now be published once a month on the first Tuesday of each month. We are looking for ways to increase students' voices, celebrations of learning and achievement as well as a way to update parents on school life.

Parent Teacher

I am wanting to update you on a change to our Mid-Year Reports. Starting this term, student reports will be presented in a new format. The ‘Pastoral Comment’ has been replaced by a set of ‘Application and Attitude to Learning’ statements. These statements describe if your child is meeting or not meeting expected standards in their work habits and behaviours. This change has been implemented by Catholic Education Tasmania (CET) at a system level.

Our latest parent teacher conversations were well supported by families this year.  80% of families engaged in this opportunity. We have heard positive things about the time spent with teachers and learning about how children are achieving at school. We are looking for feedback to improve this opportunity.  Please use the survey to help us.

Our next parent teacher conferences will be in weeks 2 and 3 of term 3.
